who is ombeni and why orphanage and learning center

My name is Ombeni Elisante, and I am the director of an orphanage and a center for children living in difficult circumstances which is located along Arusha National Park road, 3.5 kilometers from Arusha to Moshi road, known as Good Hope Kiwawa Orphanage . This center was founded by my father, who saw the need to help children after encountering a young girl who came to our home seeking for work as a housemaid. My father discovered that the girl was an orphan and was not being paid as she has been working in different places despite her hard working . He decided to take her in as his own child and helped her gain a vocational training.

The story of this young girl deeply moved my father, and he decided to involve others in the idea of establishing an orphanage, but as the days goes they started dropping out one by one because they thought it would be a profitable thing while it was not. Despite many challenges, my father continued to support these children without a stable source of income or consistent support. He relied on short-term assistance from churches and well-wishers.

In 2017 my dad passed away, we were in a very hard situation because things became very tight to us all. The children at the orphanage they needed his support as their father, at the same time I needed his support because I was still in school .  It was very hard to me because I had to choose either to go on with the school or stay with the children at the orphanage. I was asking my self many questions with no answers, but at the end i decided to do all, go to school at the same time helping the children at the orphanage while I was just 20 years old. It was a very difficult time, but I found the courage to continue my education while striving to help the children at the center. I traveled to various places seeking assistance, although the help I received was often short-term, and sometimes I had to miss school for weeks due to a lack of transport funds.

Currently, we thank God that essential services are available, but we still face many challenges and need your support. "No amount of help is too small for us; whatever you consider small will be a great help to us."

We have also initiated short-term programs of one or two years for children who dropout school or unable to continue with their education due to various challenges such as being orphaned, poverty, early pregnancies, and academic failure. These programs provide them with vocational training that will help them find employment or become self-employed so that they can help themselves, their families and the community .We will also assist them in finding jobs after completing their training.

We warmly welcome anyone who wishes to partner or work with us to support vulnerable children and orphans by providing:

        Quality education

        Books, uniforms, and stationery

Nutritious food and clean drinking water

        Health and welfare services

        Emergency crisis fund

A safe and secure learning environment

        Capacity building and training

        Life skills training

        Career guidance and employment support

We seek emotional, spiritual, physical, and financial support from other institutions, NGOs, churches, and individuals regardless of tribe, religion, or nationality. Our collective goal is to improve the lives of these children.

No donation is too small. What may seem insignificant to you could be a tremendous blessing for the orphanage. Your support, in any form, will be gratefully received and used to make a meaningful impact.

Why We Need Your Help

In Tanzania, there are approximately 7 million children under 18 who are not appropriately cared for. (the country has a total population of over 60 million people). A big part of these children are orphans, many of which have lost their parents or were left helpless due to poverty. Even if the children still have both parents, they often left their homes because of extreme poverty or domestic violence, which is often caused by the parent’s alcoholism or drug abuse, or because of being victims of witchcraft.

Many of these children live on the streets, trying to make a living by begging, stealing, and doing other bad behavior activities. These children can be seen wearing tattered cloth, walking alone, and sleeping in house entrances or primitive self-made shelters. Some of the children who don’t have a family don’t actually live on the streets, but with relatives or host families, having to stand behind the host families’ own children in terms of nutrition, accommodation, and education. They find themselves in the lowest position in society, often being the target of physical violence, humiliation, and sexual abuse
